A David Walliams bestseller: Follow Joe as he becomes the richest boy in the world.

Mr Spud has lost all his money. Not much….just a few billion pounds. Heartbreak Productions, Mr Spud and his son, Joe, would like to invite you to a garage sale (they used to own 500 garages) where they will be selling their final belongings to raise some money to buy food. The Formula 1 racing car has already been taken by the bailiffs, but there might be something interesting left. Bring your picnics, blankets and fold up chairs and come to hear the story of how Mr Spud made his billions, lost it all and how Joe became the richest boy in the world.

Waterside Arts Centre and Heartbreak Productions present an oudoor performance of David Walliam’s “Ratburger”

Tickets: £13/£9/£37 Family Ticket from Waterside Arts Centre Box Office.www.watersideartscentre.co.uk

Poor Zoe; her hamster has died and her lazy stepmother, Sheila, doesn’t care. In fact, she is so lazy that she wants Zoe to pick her nose for her — ewwww. Voted the top children’s book of the year in 2012, David Walliams’ “Ratburger” encourages us to support Zoe as she battles through a life littered with perils, pitfalls, and grizzly individuals.

Following on from the successful 2015 adaptation of Mr Stink, (which David Walliams described as “Magnificent!”), Heartbreak Productions returns this summer with the theatrical premiere of “Ratburger”, adapted for the outdoor stage. Come and join the Grand Opening Party of “Armitage’s Ices”, the ice cream parlour set up by Zoe and her Dad and follow 12 year old Zoe’s journey as she takes on the revolting characters that have proved to be one of the hallmarks of David Walliams’ appeal. Our heroine has a profound love of animals and a dream of travelling the world that keep her going as she copes with her disgusting neighbours, her recently unemployed dad, and the menacing Burt (of Burt’s Burgers) who is after Zoe and her pet rat!

Join Heartbreak Productions for this modern thriller that blends dark reality and irreverent comedy for today’s children.

Much A Do About Nothing
“Much Ado About Nothing” was performed as part of Sale Festival by Illyria Theatre Company in the Walkden Gardens on Saturday June 23rd. The threat of bad weather reduced attendees and income for the promoter, The Waterside Arts Centre, but for those wonderful people who came to see it the threat of rain was Much Ado about Nothing! They put up their umbrellas, gave the group a standing ovation for continuing and behaved as if they thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The performers fast and inventive comedy raised the spirits and the Friends of Walkden Gardens and the young members of the Air training Corps who cleared away at the end seemed to ignore the rain. Illyria had succeeded in bringing together four traditional national institutions –  Shakespeare, a lovely garden setting, the rain and the resilience of the British public !

CAROLS AROUND THE DOVECOTE
Traditional carols with a brass band, solo saxophonist Ashley Wood, a children’s choir, mulled wine, mince pies, and hot turkey rolls. Hot chestnut seller and Father Christmas!

HERITAGE OPEN DAY

Over 700 people came to see the dovecote open in October 2006 and enjoyed traditional fun and games in the gardens. We are very grateful to Pat Coulburn from Sale Civic Society for putting up a display about the dovecote and its history.

The day included tours of the gardens, the worlds first ‘Fire Eating Undertaker’ – with  fire engine close by! and croquet was played again on the Theatre Lawn.

ALICE IN WALKDEN

Led by artist Sarah Males, a week of art and drama workshops culminated in a performance of The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland – which included the famous ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ on the Theatre Lawn and saw many young families visiting Walkden Gardens for the first time in August.

‘Magical flowers’ made out of coloured paper by children could be found throughout the gardens and the Cheshire Cat suspended high up in a tree looked down on the proceedings.Cream teas were served from the dovecote.

MACBETH

June 2006 saw murder on the Theatre Lawn, when the Illyria Theatre Company performed the Scottish play ‘Macbeth’.  Shakespeare’s thrilling tale was enacted with true Jacobean authenticity and performed upon the unique Globe Theatre Style stage. Scottish food and drink was served during the interval, the event was a first for the Sale Festival and Sale Waterside who organized the event.

ASHTON ON MERSEY SHOW BAND

Increasingly popular are the band concerts held annually during the Sale Festival.

The 70s rock musical – again performed by Trafford Youth Theatre and directed by Garth Jones to great acclaim.

CIDER WITH ROSIE
